August Ascend: Bots to Apple’s Coup

1. Apple’s Silent Strike: Building Its Own ChatGPT

Apple has secretly formed a new team to develop its own ChatGPT-style AI tool, signalling a bold move to reclaim ground in the AI race. Internally named Answers, Knowledge and Information, the team is working on an “answer engine” that gathers real-time information from the web. This AI could power a smarter Siri, enhance Safari or even launch as a standalone app.

While tech giant announced plans to integrate ChatGPT into Siri, the rollout has faced delays. Now, it appears the company wants more control over its AI future. It's hiring talent with deep search and engine development experience, building infrastructure and redesigning Siri from the ground up.

In a recent all-hands meeting, the CEO Tim Cook reportedly told employees that Apple “must” and “will” win in AI, calling it as transformative as the internet or the iPhone. The message is clear: Apple knows it’s behind and it's racing to catch up. Behind the scenes, it has quietly acquired seven AI startups in 2025 alone and aggressively hired top talent.

2. Anthropic Fires Back: AI Vaccines In, OpenAI Out

Anthropic is reshaping AI safety with a bold new approach: persona vectors. Think of them as vaccines for AI behaviour targeting traits like sycophancy, hallucinations or hidden toxicity. These vectors allow Claude to be trained or tuned in real time, not just to perform, but to behave. No trade-off on accuracy, no blind spots in safety.

But the story doesn’t end there. In a rare move, Anthropic shut off OpenAI’s access to Claude 3.5, accusing them of using Claude to benchmark GPT-5, against policy. OpenAI called it standard practice. Anthropic called it a violation.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also criticized OpenAI leadership for “insincerity,” rejected Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s claim that he seeks to monopolize safety and called debates over open-source “a red herring.” Arguing that real breakthroughs come from targeting complex enterprise tasks rather than chasing consumer chatbots, Amodei dismissed open-source licensing debates as distractions and criticized industry hype that ignores genuine risk.

3. Meta’s $72B AI Bet: From Helper to Superbrain

Meta just spotted the first signs of its AI learning to improve itself, without humans in the loop. Mark Zuckerberg calls it “slow but undeniable,” a step toward what he dubs personal superintelligence, AI that boosts your thinking and creativity, not just replaces work.

To fuel this shift, Meta is pouring up to $72 billion into AI infrastructure next year, building mega data centres like Prometheus (Ohio) and Hyperion (Louisiana). But in a sharp turn, Meta will stop open-sourcing its most powerful models, citing new safety concerns.

Still, the strategy seems to be paying off. Meta’s stock surged 10% after-hours following a strong Q2 and an upbeat Q3 outlook. The company posted $47.5 billion in revenue, with Q3 projections ranging up to $50.5 billion. AI-powered ad tools like smart translations and video generation, helped boost ad performance and drive growth.

4. What’s New: MiniMax Hailuo 02 Goes Live

Higgsfield AI has unveiled MiniMax Hailuo 02, a powerful new video generation model that makes prompt-free creation a reality. With over 7,000 ready-to-use presets, anyone can now produce unlimited, high-quality videos completely free. What powers this magic? The Soul ID image model, which works seamlessly with MiniMax to streamline the entire process from idea to video, without needing any creative input from the user.

To celebrate this game-changing release, Higgsfield is also rolling out a $20,000 contest, inviting creators to explore and experiment with this no-prompt revolution. The update aims to simplify video production by eliminating the complexity of prompt engineering, making advanced video generation more accessible to both beginners and professionals.
