1. Microsoft Unveils MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-1-Preview via Copilot Labs

Microsoft has announced two major AI breakthroughs under its Copilot Audio Expressions Labs project MAI-Voice-1, a next-generation voice synthesis model, and MAI-1-Preview, its first in-house foundation language model.

The voice model, MAI-Voice-1, delivers expressive, natural speech at unprecedented speed, generating one minute of audio in under a second on a single GPU. It is already powering Copilot features like Daily and Podcasts, while also available in Copilot Labs for interactive storytelling demos.

Meanwhile, MAI-1-Preview, trained on 15,000 GPUs, is designed as a large-scale mixture-of-experts model. Currently ranked among the top global LLMs on LMArena, it will soon be integrated into Copilot to enhance user experiences and gather real-world feedback.

2. OpenAI in September: Innovation Meets Responsibility

September has been a big month for OpenAI, with multiple updates across products, research, and social impact initiatives.
